King began performing comedy in the Catskills then as an opening act for performers such as Lena Horne and Judy Garland.

In the 1950s, he began appearing in films then on TV. His films include Bye Bye Braverman and Just Tell Me What You Want.

King has also written several books and produced films and stage plays.
