Alexander Harvey

Songwriter and actor Alex Harvey was raised in Brownsville, Tennessee and earned a master's degree in music from Murray State University in Kentucky.

In the early 1970s, Kenny Rodgers and The First Edition scored a hit with Harvey's "Reuben James."

Harvey's "Delta Dawn" (co-written with Larry Collins) has been recorded by more than 60 artists including Bette Midler, Helen Reddy, and Henry Mancini.

In the 1970s, actor James Garner encouraged Harvey to take up acting. Harvey studied acting under Milton Katselas for four years before guest starring (with James Garner) in a TV movie called The Long Summer Of George Adams in 1982. He's since appeared in several TV shows and films.
