| Bill Collins was the manager of Badfinger. Under his direction, the band signed a contact with Apple Records.
Bill Collins encouraged the group to write their own songs. He is co-credited with writing "Without You" because the members of the group agreed to share songwriting royalties among all four members and their manager. The songwriting credits, as listed on recordings of "Without You", however, list just Tom Evans and Pete Ham as the songwriters since they actually wrote the song. At an awards ceremony, ASCAP mistakenly credited the song to all five of those who share the royalties which angered the relatives of Tom Evans and Pete Ham.
Bill Collins died on August 6, 2002, after suffering a heart attack. Although some have credited him with creating the financial and legal mess surrounding the group, Badfinger member Mike Gibbons said "He was our mentor and direction. Without him Badfinger would have never been known as they are today. ... He will be sadly missed and never forgotten." Visitor Comments: |
