Bill Irwin

Irwin graduated from Oberlin College in Ohio with a degree in theater arts. He also graduated from the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Clown College in Florida.

In 1994, Irwin was awarded a MacArthur Genius Grant in recognition for his shows which combine dance and traditional clowning.

Irwin made his feature film debut as "Ham Gravy" in Popeye in 1980. He played a member of the Chicago "Black" Sox in John Sayles's Eight Men Out in 1988 and Rick Moranis's FBI partner in 1990's My Blue Heaven.

Irwin may be most recognized as the "Flying Man" in the TV series "Northern Exposure." He also appears regularly on "Sesame Street" as "Mr. Noodle."
