| Robert Lee Hatfield was born on August 10, 1940, in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. He died on November 5, 2003.
Hatfield's family moved to Anaheim, California, when he was 4. While in high school, Hatfield performed in music groups. An excellent athlete, he considered a career in professional baseball but finally decided to pursue a music career.
