Mercy, Mercy

Bernard Rich was born on September 30, 1917, in Brooklyn, New York. Rich's parents were vaudeville performers, and young Buddy soon joined the act as "Baby Traps, the Drum Wonder."

Later, Rich played with Joe Marsala, Artie Shaw, and Tommy Dorsey before forming his own big band. Rich toured with his band and performed at two nightclubs he owned.

Rich died of heart failure on April 2, 1987, after surgery for a malignant brain tumor.
