Miranda was a popular singer in Brazil. She performed in clubs, made records, and appeared in films. In the mid-1930s, Lee Shubert, a Broadway producer, saw her show in Brazil and offered her a part in a Broadway show.
In 1940, Miranda signed with 20th Century Fox. Her debut in Down Argentine Way made her a star during the 1940s. Her last screen role was in Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis's 1953 film Scared Stiff.
