Chris Smith

Chris Smith was born on October 12, 1879, in Charleston, South Carolina. He died on October 4, 1949, in New York, New York.

Smith travelled with a medicine show until settling down in New York City. With his partner, Elmer Bowman, Smith wrote songs for Vaudeville and appeared onstage.

In 1914, Smith wrote ^"Ballin' the Jack^" with Jim Burris. The song was a hit and spawned a dance craze that lasted for years.
