| David Cassidy was born on April 12, 1950, in New York, New York. His parents were actors Jack Cassidy and Evelyn Ward. They divorced when David was very young. In 1955, David's father married actress Shirley Jones.
After dropping out of college, Cassidy began acting, on stage in New York and on TV. In 1970, he was hired to play "Keith Partridge" on the TV series "The Partridge Family" with his step mother, Shirley Jones.
