| David Duchovny was born on August 7, 1960, in New York, New York.
Duchovny earned an undergraduate degree from Princeton University and a graduate degree in English Literature from Yale University. While at Yale, he began studying acting and appearing in off-Broadway plays.
Duchovny first attracted attention with his memorable portrayal of "Dennis/Denise," the transvestite detective in the TV series "Twin Peaks." But he's best known for portraying the FBI agent, Fox Mulder, in the TV series "The X-Files" and in the X-Files feature film.
On the set of the X-Files film, Duchovny ad-libbed the line "One is the loneliest number" which inspired the inclusion of Filter's cover of Harry Nilsson's "One" in the film.
