| David Steinberg was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Steinberg, the son of a rabbi, travelled to Israel to study theology but returned to North America to attend the University of Chicago where he majored in English Literature.
In 1964, Steinberg joined Chicago's Second City. After a few years, he headed to Broadway, but met limited success. But Steinberg's one-man show at a small theater in New York attracted attention and he was hired to appear on the new Smothers Brothers television show.
On October 27, 1968, television viewers turned in to see the Smothers Brothers and many were shocked by Steinberg's irreverent portrayal of a minister.
Shortly afterwards, the series was cancelled and Steinberg was hired to host Music Scene on ABC. In the early 1970s, Steinberg hosted "The David Steinberg Show" on US and Canada television networks.
In the 1980s, Steinberg started directing films and television shows. His films include Paternity and Going Berserk. He's directed episodes of "Newhart," "Seinfeld," "Mad About You," "The Golden Girls, " "Evening Shade," "Designing Women," and "Friends." Visitor Comments:Connections:David Steinberg ... |
