| Dennis Hopper was born on May 17, 1936, in Dodge City, Kansas.
Hopper graduated from high school in San Diego, California.
Hopper appeared on television in episodes of shows such as "Twilight Zone and "Wagon Train" and made his film debut in Johnny Guitar. In 1955, he appeared as a young tough in Rebel Without a Cause. He also appeared with James Dean in Giant in 1956.
Hopper then studied acting with Lee Strasberg at the Actors Studio.
In the 1960s, Hopper appeared in a number of "psychedelic films" including The Trip and Head.
Hooper directed and starred in Easy Rider which was released in 1969. Based on a screenplay by Terry Southern, the film earned millions. Although Hopper received critical acclaim, his career faltered.
