| Eurovision is a TV distribution network run by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Created in the mid-1950s, Eurovision supplies news and sports programming to Europe and world-wide.
The EBU officials, hoping to offset the influence of American media, created the annual Eurovision Song Contest in the early 1950s. The first contest was first held in 1956 in Lugano, Switzerland.
The competition televised live and is open only to members of the EBU which include Israel and other countries not actually a part of Europe.
