| Ewart Abner co-wrote "At My Front Door" which Harry Nilsson recorded and released on the Son of Schmilsson album.
Abner began working for a record company in Chicago in 1948. In 1950, he and
Art Sheridan formed Chance Records. In 1955, Abner
became the general manager for Vee-Jay records and, in 1961,
was appointed president of the company. Under Abner, Vee-Jay was the first record label in America to
release recordings by The Beatles.
In 1967, Berry Gordy hired Abner to be the vice
president of international management for Motown. In 1973,
Abner became president of Motown.
In 1975, Abner left Motown to become 's manager. In 1978,
Abner co-founded the Black Museum Association.
For the
rest of his life, Abner remained active in the music business as well
