Fred Neil was born on January 1, 1937, in St. Petersburg, Florida. He died on July 7, 2001.
Neil co-wrote one of Buddy Holly's early singles and released a few singles during the late 1950s. In the 1960s, he performed in Greenwich Village, often with Vince Martin. The two recorded just one album, Tear Down The Walls.
Neil's first solo album was Bleecker and MacDougal which was released in May of 1965. The album included Neil's "The Other Side Of This Life" which was later recorded by the Youngbloods, Lovin' Spoonful, and the Jefferson Airplane.
Neil's second solo album was released two years later. Fred Neil included the songs "The Dolphins" and "Everybody's Talkin'".
After releasing The Other Side Of This Life in 1971, effectively stopped recording and performing except for a few live appearances at benefits for his charity, Dolphin Project.
