| George Harrison was a friend of Harry Nilsson and attended Harry's funeral.
Harrison was born on February 24, 1943, in Liverpool, England. He died on November 29, 2001, in Los Angeles, California.
In 1958, Harrison joined the Quarrymen which became the Beatles a short time later. Although he didn't write as many songs for the Beatles as John Lennon and Paul McCartney, Harrison did pen many hits including "Taxman," "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," "Something," and "Here Comes the Sun."
Harrison developed an interest in Hinduism and in Sitar music. He took sitar lessons from Ravi Shankar and played the instrument on Beatles recordings and in the soundtrack he composed for the 1968 film Wonderwall.
After the Beatles parted, Harrison released the album All Things Must Pass in 1970. The album, produced by Phil Spector, produced the number one hit single "My Sweet Lord."
Although he continued to record and release solo albums, Harrison also produced films. He founded HandMade Films in 1978, and produced several films including Monty Python's Life of Brian and the Time Bandits.
Harrison's 1987 album Cloud Nine including Harrison's recording of Rudy Clark's "I Got My Mind Set On You" which became a hit. In 1988, Harrison formed the Traveling Wilburys with Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and Roy Orbison. The group released two best-selling albums, Traveling Wilburys, and Traveling Wilburys, Vol. 3.
In the mid 1990s, Harrison reunited with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr as the Beatles to record "Free as a Bird" and "Real Love" based on demo recordings by John Lennon.
In late 1999, Harrison was stabbed several times in his home by an intruder. He recovered from the serious injuries.
