| Grease! premiered on Broadway in 1972. In 1979 Grease! set the record as the longest-running show in the history of Broadway. The film version, starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John was the highest grossing movie musical ever.
The play was created by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey as an antidote to traditional Broadway shows with typical "show tunes."
