Harry Warren: American Songbook Series

Salvatore Anthony Guaragna was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 24, 1893. He adopted the name Harry Warren while in school. He taught himself to play drums, accordion, and piano. Warren writing songs while in the Navy. In 1922, Warren composed his first hit, "Rose of the Rio Grande" with lyrist Edgar Leslie.

More hits followed including "Home In Pasadena", "In My Gondola", "Nagasaki", ^"Shuffle Off to Buffalo^", and "You're Getting to Be a Habit With Me".

From 1929 to 1932, Warren was the director of ASCAP.

Harry Nilsson and Dr. John recorded Warren's ^"Shuffle Off to Buffalo^" shortly after Nilsson's ...That's the Way It Is album was released.
