| Lawrence Welk created The Welk Group, Inc. to produce the musician's television show and oversee his investments. In 1979, The Welk Group purchased the Ranwood Records label and formed Heartland Music which became one of the largest and most successful mail-order music companies in the country. The company sold records and tapes through television ads. Heartland's artists included Johnny Mathis, Roger Whittaker, Zamfir, Barbara Mandrell, Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn, and Conway Twitty.
