Herbert John Gleason was born on
February 26, 1916, in the
Bushwick section of Brooklyn, New York. He died on June 24, 1987, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Gleason had minor roles in films such as All Through the Night and Springtime in the Rockies before hitting it big on television in his own variety series and it's spin-off "The Honeymooners."
After his television success, Gleason returned to films with critically-aclaimed dramatic performances in The Hustler and Requiem for a Heavyweight.
