| Novelist Jeffrey Archer was born on April 15, 1940, in Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset, England.
Archer attended the Oxford Department of Education studying physical education. He competed internationally as a sprinter.
In 1967, Archer won a seat on the Greater London Council. Two years later he was elected to the House of Commons.
A bad investment caused Archer to loose all his money. He resigned from Parliament and wrote a novel based on his experiences. Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less became a bestseller.
Archer has written many bestselling novels including The Fourth Estate and Sons of Fortune.
In 1985, Margaret Thatcher appointed Archer as deputy chairman of the Conservative Party. He resigned a year later due to allegations that he offered money to a prostitute. Nevertheless, Archer was elevated to the House of Lords in 1992.
