Jennifer Jean Warnes was born on March 3, 1947, in Seattle, Washington.
In 1968, Warnes signed with Decca and released her first album. She also became a regular on the "Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour" television show.
In the early 1970s, she met Leonard Cohen. She toured Europe with his band and recorded with him.
Warnes's 1977 single "Right Time of the Night" reached number one on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Singles chart.
In 1980, Warnes won an Oscar for Best Original Song for "It Goes Like It Goes" which was used in the film Norma Rae.
She received another Oscar nomination the next year for "One More Hour" from Ragtime.
In 1982, her duet with Joe Cocker of "Up Where We Belong" was used in the film An Officer and a Gentleman. The song reached number one on the Billboard chart. The song won a Grammy award, a Golden Globe award, and an Oscar.
Her 1987 duet with Bill Medley, "(I've Had) The Time of My Life," from the film Dirty Dancing reached number one and won a Grammy award and an Oscar. Visitor Comments: |
