Jim Broadbent was born on May 24, 1949, in Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England.
Broadbent attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art graduating in 1972. He began his professional career performing with the Royal National Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company, and the "National Theatre of Brent" - a two-man troupe which he co-founded.
Broadbent had small parts in several films including Time Bandits and Brazil before starring in Mike Leigh's Life Is Sweet followed by a major part in The Crying Game in 1992.
