| Jo Elizabeth Stafford was born on November 12, 1917, in Coalinga, California.
Jo and her sisters formed the Stafford Sisters who were regular performers on California radio stations.
Latter Jo joined the Pied Pipers who appeared on Tommy Dorsey's radio program in 1938. The group also recorded "I'll Never Smile Again" with Frank Sinatra.
Stafford signed with Capitol Records in 1943 and began a solo recording career. Her hit recordings included ""You Belong to Me"" and ""Shrimp Boats"."
Stafford also recorded comedy albums under the name Darlene Edwards.
Stafford hosted the Chesterfield Supper Club radio program in the 1940s. In 1954, she began hosting the Jo Stafford Show on the CBS television network.
