| John Lee Hooker was born on August 22, 1917, in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He died on June 21, 2001.
As a child, Hooker learned to play guitar. As a teen, he moved to Memphis, Tennessee, and worked as a theater usher while playing music on the side. Later he moved to Detroit, Michigan, and worked in an automobile factory. At night, he playe din Detroit clubs.
In 1949, Hooker's "Boogie Chillen" single hit number one on the R&B chart. Hooker continued creating blues and R&B hits through the 1960s.
In 1970, Hooker recorded an album, Hooker 'n Heat with the rock group Canned Heat. In 1980s, Hooker appeared in the movie, The Blues Brothers, and recorded with Pete Townshend and Van Morrison. Visitor Comments:Connections:John Lee Hooker ... |
