John Malkovich was born on December 9, 1953, in Christopher, Illinois.

Malkovich was a founder of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company. After appearing in made-for-TV movies in the early 1980s, Malkovich made his film debut in The Killing Fields in 1984. Also in 1984, he appeared in Places in the Heart and earned an Oscar nomination as "Best Supporting Actor."

Malkovich's other films include Making Mr. Right and In the Line of Fire.
