Joseph Mohr

Joseph Mohr was born on December 11, 1792, in Salzburg, Austria and died on December 4, 1848.

Mohr was ordained as a priest on August 21, 1815. While in service in the Alpine village of Mariapfarr, Mohr wrote a poem called "Stille Nacht! Heilige Nacht!"

Later at the St. Nicholas Church in Oberndorf, Mohr met Franz Gruber. Gruber composed the melody for ^"Silent Night^".
