The group's first album was released in 1976 and became a best-seller mainly because of rumors that the album was actually recorded by the Beatles.

Capitol, the Beatles US record label and the label which released Klaatu's album, refused to either confirm or deny the rumors.

Once the truth was revealed, the group's album sales diminshed and the group broke up in 1981.
