In the late 1960s, Eric Clapton fell in love with Pattie Boyd. At the time, Boyd was married to George Harrison, Clapton's friend.
Inspired by poet Ganjavi Nizami's book, The Story of Layla & Majnun, Clapton enlisted the help of drummer Jim Gordon and wrote a song he hoped would convince Boyd to leave her husband for Clapton.
"Layla" was first recorded in 1970 by Derek and the Dominoes. Harrison and Boyd divorced in 1977. Clapton and Boyd were married two years later. They divorced in 1989. Visitor Comments: |
