Lowell George

Lowell George was born on April 13, 1945, in Hollywood, California. As a child, George appeared with his brother on Ted Mack's "Original Amateur Hour" performing a harmonica duet. George also learned to play oboe and baritone saxophone and played the instruments for several Frank Sinatra sessions.

In the late 1960s, George joined Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention where he met Roy Estrada. In 1969, George and Estrada formed Little Feat with Richie Hayward and Bill Payne.

The band toured and released several albums. Estrada left the group and guitarist Paul Barrere and percussionist Sam Clayton were added.

In 1979, George announced that he was leaving the group. He released a solo album called Thanks, I'll Eat It Here and began a tour to promote it. On June 28, 1979, after a show at the Lisner Auditorium of George Washington University in Washington, D.C., Lowell George suffered a heart attack and died.
