Melissa Prophet was "Miss Los Angeles" and "Miss California." She participated in the Miss World Pageant and the Miss USA Pageant. She appeared nude in a pictorial in the May, 1987, issue of Playboy.

Prophet married former Columbia executive Craig Baumgarten. Together they formed the management company Baumgarten-Prophet Entertainment.

Prophet currently manages artists through her firm, Melissa Prophet Management.
