| Morris Pert was born in 1947 in Arbroath, Scotland. Pert graduated from Edinburgh University in 1969. Under an Andrew Fraser scholarship, he studied composition and percussion at the Royal Academy in London, England.
In the 1970s, Pert was both a prominent composer and a popular session musician. As a percussionist, Pert recorded with Paul McCartney, Andrew Lloyd-Webber, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, and others.
