Oliver Norvell Hardy was born on January 18, 1892, in Harlem, Georgia. He died on August 7, 1957.

Hardy started singing as a child. As a teen, Hardy had a job running a movie theater. Interested in acting, Hardy visited the Lubin Film Company in nearby Jacksonville, Florida. Hardy worked in silent films for Lubin for several years before moving to California.

In the mid 1920s, Hardy was working for the Hal Roach studio where he teamed up with Stan Laurel. In the 1920s through 1950, Laurel and Hardy made a number of silent and talking films.
