| Director Paul Morrissey was born on February 23, 1938, in New York, New York.
Morrissey studied literature at Fordham University then spent time in the Army and worked in insurance and as a social worker. In the early, 1960s, he began directing short films.
In 1965, Morissey met Andy Warhol. Morrissey worked on films with the artist and eventually oversaw all operations at the Warhol studio with the exception of sales of artwork.
While working with Warhol, Morrissey discovered the Velvet Underground and managed the band's early years.
