| Phillip Everly was born on January 19,1939, in Chicago, Illinois. A few years later, his family moved to Shenandoah, Iowa. His father worked for a radio station and hosted a radio show. Phil and his brother, Don, (aged 6 and 8) appeared on the show and were introduced as "Baby Boy Phil and Little Donnie."
Their father encouraged the brother's interest in music and the radio show became "The Everly Family Show." The show (and the family) moved several times to new areas and new radio stations and eventually the family ended up in Nashville, Tennessee in 1955.
By 1957, the Everly Brothers had recorded "Bye Bye Love" and appeared on the Grand Ole Opry show.
Their next hit, "Wake Up Little Susie" was released later that same year. As the song reached number one on the charts, the Everly Brothers began a nationwide tour. "The Biggest Show of Stars for '57" tour included the Everly Brothers and top acts including Chuck Berry, The Drifters, Paul Anka, Fats Domino, The Crickets, Eddie Cochran, LaVern Baker, and Frankie Lymon.
More hits followed including "All I Have to Do is Dream."
The brothers parted ways in 1973, then reunited in 1983 for a concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London, England.
