| Ralph Reichenthal was born on October 7, 1901, in New York, New York. He died on October 23, 1942.
After high school, Rainger won a scholarship to the Damrosch Institute of Music. After one year, Rainger left the Institute and fulfilled his father's wishes by atending and graduating from Law School.
Rainger worked as a law clerk during the day while playing piano for dance orchestras at night.
In the late 1920s, Rainger quite his legal work to work professionally. Over a little more than a decade, he wrote songs and music used in more than 100 films. He often collaborated with Leo Robin.
