R. Ben Efraim was born in a Kibbutz north of Tel Aviv, Israel. Efraim attended Hebrew University then produced shows for Israeli National Radio.

Efraim began producing films in 1972. His first film was a thriller called The Jerusalem File. His other films include Private Lessons, Private School, and Private Resort.
