| Richard LaGravenese was born on October 30, 1959, in Brooklyn, New York.
LaGravenese attended Emerson College then joined in New York University's Experimental Theater Wing.
After working on the screenplay for Cheech Marin's Rude Awakening, LaGravenese wrote his first original screenplay. The Fisher King received an Academy Award nomination for "Best Original Screenplay."
