Richard Riehle was born on May 12, 1948, in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin.

Riehle attended the University of Notre Dame where he appeared in several stage productions. After graduating, Riehle attended the John Fernald Academy of Dramatic Art

Riehle made his Broadway debut in 1986 and appeared with Kevin Spacey in the 1999 revival of "The Iceman Cometh."

Riehle has appeared in more than 90 films including Glory, Fried Green Tomatoes, and Free Willy. He's made many guest appearances in TV shows including Star Trek: Voyager and The West Wing.
