| Robert Palmer was born on January 19, 1949, in Yorkshire, England. He died on September 26, 2003.
As a child, Palmer lived in Malta. His father was in the navy and was stationed on the island. On Malta, Palmer listened to American Armed Forces Radio and was exposed to popular music from artists such as Billie Holiday and Nat King Cole.
In 1969, Palmer moved to London, England, and joined The Alan Bown Set. He sang on their 1970 album Listen. He then joined the group Dada which became Vinegar Joe and appeared on three albums with the group.
Palmer went solo in 1974 and released Sneakin' Sally Through The Alley. After a couple more albums, Palmer achieved commercial success with 1978's Double Fun and its top 20 single, "Every Kinda People." In 1979, his album Secrets spawned another top 20 hit, "Bad Case Of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor)."
In 1985, Palmer formed The Power Station with Andy Taylor, John Taylor, and Tony Thompson. The same year he released a solo album called Riptide which included a couple of hit singles, "Addicted To Love" and "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On."
