Sara Rebecca Abeles was born on January 29, 1975, in Santa Monica, California.

Sara followed her sister, Melissa Gilbert into an acting career. She appeared in commercials then in the TV series "Roseanne." During her last couple of years on the series, Gilbert attended Yale University. She graduated in 1997.

Gilbert has appeared in several feature films including Poison Ivy and High Fidelity.
