Scott Scovell Hamilton was born on August 28, 1958, in Bowling Green, Ohio. As a child, Hamilton overcame an unknown illness that caused
him to stop growing by adopting a special diet and moderate exercise including ice skating.
Under the sponsorship of an anonymous couple, Hamilton trained with Olympic gold medalist, Pierre Brunet.
In 1980 he placed fifth at the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid, New York.
In 1984, Hamilton won the gold medal in the Sarajevo Olympics.
Later that year, Hamilton joined The Ice Capades as a professional. Since then he has toured as a skater,
produced ice shows and plays, and appeared on television as both a skater and a commentator.
Hamilton is an official spokesperson for Target House at St. Jude Children's Hospital in
Memphis, Tennessee. A cancer survivor, he sponsors his own Scott Hamilton C.A.R.E.S. Initiative
(Cancer Alliance for Research, Education and Survivorship) and Chemocare.com
