| Three Dog Night scored a big hit with their recording of Harry Nilsson's "One".
Three Dog Night was formed in 1968 by Danny Hutton. In 1965, Hutton had hit number 73 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with a song called "Roses and Rainbows."
Cory Wells and Chuck Negron joined Hutton's group which was named Three Dog Night after an Australian expression that described sleeping conditions on a chilly night in the outback.
Three Dog Night became popular around Los Angeles, California, and was signed by Dunhill. Rather than writing their own songs, the group looked for good songs by other songwriters. Their third single, Harry Nilsson's "One", reached the top of the Billboard charts.
The reached the top of the charts again a year later with Randy Newman's "Mama Told Me (Not to Come)". In 1971, their recording of Hoyt Axton's "Joy to the World" became the group's biggest hit - spending six weeks on top of the Billboard charts. Visitor Comments: |
