| In 1977, film editor Tim Squyres began his undergradute studies at Cornell University as a physics major. He changed his major to psychology but after taking an introductory film course, he became a teaching assistant for the filmmaking course and started working at a local cable station.
After graduating in 1981, Squyres began editing student films at New York University.
In 1991, Squyres was the supervising sound editor and an assistant editor of Nancy Sovaca's Dog Fight which starred River Phoenix. Later the same year, Squyres was the film editor for the low-budget comedy Blowback.
In 1992, Squyres edited Ang Lee's Pushing Hands. Through the 1999s, Squyres continued his association with Lee and in 1999, Squyres began working on Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. For the film, Squyres won the Best Editor Award at the Taipei Golden Horse Festival and received an Oscar nomination as well as award nominations from the American Cinema Editors and the British Academy Awards.
