Recorded/Published: June 12, 1967 The semi-autobiographical "1941" first appeared on Harry Nilsson's Pandemonium Shadow Show and made a slightly modified reappearance on Aerial Pandemonium Ballet.
Tom Northcott had a minor hit with his cover of "1941". Others who recorded versions of the song include Alan Price and Billy J. Kramer.
"When I started '1941', I wanted to write a song revolving around a number. So I thought I'd write a song about a year. First I tried '1944'. It didn't work. Then I tried '1941'. Yes, it clicked! Originally, I had planned it to be a war song." -- Harry Nilsson
Film producer David Puttnam was impressed by the song "1941" and asked writer Ray Connolly to create a screenplay based on it. The film, That'll Be the Day, starred David Essex and Ringo Starr.
