BMG's Camden label in England issued this CD containing the complete "A Little Touch of Schmilsson in the Night" sessions. Although the CD is budget-priced (around $14 in the US), it contains over 50 minutes of music and is packaged very nicely with liner notes by Rob Burt who, back in 1988, remixed several of the songs for the A Touch More Schmilsson in the Night album.

This CD is the one that spends the most time in my CD player. The recordings capture Harry at his best and the additional songs make this collection better than A Little Touch of Schmilsson in the Night. Camden is pulling this album soon to be replaced by a new release of A Little Touch of Schmilsson in the Night with bonus tracks. I'm sure the new released will be great, but, just in case, you may wish to pick up a copy of this CD.

A nice cover design acompanies what is at long last the complete 1973 orchestra sessions. And wow! This was the first harry album not to feature harmony vocals - it's pure harry throughout. His voice is in beautiful shape for the very last time, and it's almost heartbreaking to think about the effects his vocal chord rupture would bring about shortly afterwards. A fine showcase of some of the best songs ever written, mainly standards from the 30s and 40s. A highlight is his wonderful reading of "Lazy moon", the turn of the century number performed by Oliver Hardy in the 1931 feature "Pardon Us". The addition of "Over The Rainbow" leaves you bewildered as to why it was never issued on the original collection, and as was is knack, Mr. N makes it his own. With fine renditions of "Paper Moon", "Always" and "I Wonder Who's Kissing Her Now" spread among a beautiful set list - and with some fine orchestral arrangements of a seemless nature, this is an album everyone should own.
