The double feature of the century! The Newman collection remains my favourite ever Nilsson album and indeed album by anyone. Harry from 1969 is a close contender. The contrast between bouncy pop tunes such as "Puppy Song" and heart-wrenching performances of "Mournin' Glory Story" and "Mr. Bojangles" makes for intriguing listening. The Vaudeville feel is still well in evidence and as always, a touch of comedy finds its way into both albums. Beautiful gliding vocals throughout and two lovely bonus additions in the form of "Waiting" and "Snow". |
