This is an undiscovered gem! On the label it lists the artist as "Dore Alpert." I'd have to presume that "Dore" was the alias that Herb was using for his vocal efforts, which prior to 1968's "This Guy's In Love With You," had no impact whatsoever on the charts.
Regardless, it becomes immediately apparent that this is actually a duet in which Nilsson's much more powerful voice completely drowns out Alpert's, right from the very first note. A HUGE Spectorish production with majestic strings and horns that would completely overwhelm a lesser singer. The quirky chord changes were definitely ahead of their time, and the "La La La" break after the first verse and chorus is absolutely irresistable! Somebody please reissue this! |
