Sunday Mirror United Kingdom March 14, 2004 Author Ben Todd reports that Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood was told by doctors that if he did not quit smoking he would be at risk of catching emphysema and dying within a year. Wood is quoted as saying:
I should have died around when Keith Moon did in 1978. Yeah, because me and Keith, we were hitting it really hard. I used to say to Keith, "You're meant to take one of those tablets, not the whole bottle." Keith would literally take a whole bottle of Valium. So it didn't surprise me when he died, when he OD'd. I've been surrounded with people who have OD'd - Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, the trail just goes on and on. People like Peter Cook, Harry Nilsson. All these people I used to hang out with are dropping like flies.
